CURTAINS
Curtains are an indispensable feature that is an essential need for any house. From framing the shape of the windows to bringing out the colours of your house, curtains adorn your home like a dress, not just protecting but also decorating your interiors.
Curtains are used to give a sophisticated and stylish appeal to cover your windows/doors. Although they are essential for your interior design, the protection of your home from dust, sunlight, and UV rays are its foremost functions.
Curtains are one decor that can be found in any room of the house. Be it the master bedroom to the dining hall, curtains usually hang from the top of the window, acting as a barrier between the outside world and the inside.
WHAT IS LINING, AND WHY IS USED ON CURTAINS?
Lining in curtains is the inner layer of fabric that goes under the main or sheer curtain.
There are endless types of curtains and linings, but the two most used linings with multiple attractive features are:
Polyester Lining - Polyester lining is one of the most frequently used linings for curtains. It is affordable and lightweight and can withstand colour fading caused by sunlight. This lining made from synthetic fibre also ensures that no wrinkles are formed. It comes in white, off white, cream, fawn colours etc. It can be added onto any curtain, main or sheer.
Blackout Lining- Blackout Lining blocks 95% of the light from entering the room. This is commonly used for curtains. It is ideal as it insulates the windows, automatically converting the room into a cool space against the hot sun.
Types of curtains
Curtain on a single rod - Mounted onto a bar/rod that rests on the top of your window or door, the main curtains are affordable, simple, and elegant. These curtains hug your window and give an aesthetic look to your house.
Sheer Curtains - Sheer curtains are lightweight and graceful curtains perfect for rooms that do not directly source sunlight. They are mounted onto a single rod and fit perfectly in any style of decor.
Two Curtains on Two Rods / Main And Sheer Curtain - Although the most common type of curtains, it is still the idealized form for any house. Here, two curtains are stacked, one at the front and one at the back of the rods and windows.
Curtains with Scallop- These decor curtains really accentuate and brighten the room, bringing out a feeling of luxury. Curtains with scallops are ornamental and are commonly used for bedrooms, halls, and living rooms.
Main or Sheer Curtain with Lining- Lining curtains are the ideal match for any house. Be it a traditional setting or a modern one, it functions as furnishings and acts as a protective shield from excessive light and noise.
Blackout or Dimout Curtains- These double-lined, tightly woven curtains protect the room from direct sunlight and UV rays. Blackout curtains also help avoid the premature aging of your home furnishings and fabric that could be caused due to sunlight.

Pleated Curtains- Fabric in the design of elegant folds are pleated curtains. This is what really brings out the aesthetic component of curtains. Their popularity and demand remain unscathed over the years.
Eyelet Curtains or Gourmet Curtains- Eyelet curtains are the common alternative for pleated curtains. These contemporary styled curtains are elegant and form soft pleats. It is called eyelet curtains because they have metal rings on top of the curtains instead of the standard header tape.
Types of fabric used in Curtains
100% Cotton - This soft, durable, and easy maintenance fabric is purely made of cotton. 100% Cotton is resilient and much more comfortable as compared to other materials.
Cotton blend - This fabric has a perfect blend of cotton with other fabrics to create a more robust and attractive material. Available at an affordable price, it is lightweight and resistant to wrinkles.
Silk - This fabric form is predominantly known for its shimmering, luster, strength, and durability factors. This natural protein fiber is a renowned fabric used for curtains and many other furnishings depicting grace and glimmer.
Linen - This textile made from fibers of the flax plant is best suited to fight the heat. This absorbent and robust material dries faster than cotton.
